The Clatsop County Sheriff's Office is the primary criminal investigation and law enforcement agency for rural Clatsop County. The Sheriff's Office includes several divisions and programs: the Correctional Facility, countywide Inter-agency Narcotics Task Force, Marine Patrol, High Angle Rescue, Search and Rescue and the Underwater Recovery (Dive) Team. The Sheriff is responsible for Emergency Services planning and response to disasters and alerts.

Through the Clatsop County Rural Law Enforcement District, the Sheriff's Office operates the Columbia River Substation in the Knappa-Svensen area and the Nehalem Valley Substation in the Jewell area.

In 2006, the Sheriff's Office developed a strategic plan to guide our efforts in the criminal and corrections divisions for the next five years. Input was invited from staff with the agency. Six public meetings were held around the county to solicit input from our citizens and customers about our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, service priorities, expectations and concerns. Sheriff Bergin is member of the Western States Sheriffs Association. Below are three resolutions adopted by the association at its annual meeting March 21, 2013.
